New books in January

I only had one unread book left on my kindle and had to do something. Unfortunately I have become quite picky when it comes to choosing new reading material. If it's not written by one of my favourites I won't pick it up as easily. If it's a multi-volume series, I probably won't pick it up at all. If it sounds like something I read before - no chance. So it's hard to find something interesting for me within the fantasy genre.

I turned to Sci-Fi and got Dune by Frank Herbert. I had it back in Germany but couldn't take it with me and never came to reading it as my TBR was way too high in those days.
Now I feel like reading it!

I also did an experiment and picked an unknown random Fantasy novel from the shelf because I liked the cover. It doesn't sound to shabby either so I hope I was lucky this time.
The book is called Smiler's Fair by Rebecca Levene and is the first part of her Hollow Gods series.

Yron the moon god died, but now he's reborn in the false king's son. His human father wanted to kill him, but his mother sacrificed her life to save him. He'll return one day to claim his birthright. He'll change your life.
He'll change everything.
Smiler's Fair: the great moving carnival where any pleasure can be had, if you're willing to pay the price. They say all paths cross at Smiler's Fair. They say it'll change your life. For five people, Smiler's Fair will change everything.
In a land where unimaginable horror lurks in the shadows, where the very sun and moon are at war, five people - Nethmi, the orphaned daughter of a murdered nobleman, who in desperation commits an act that will haunt her forever. Dae Hyo, the skilled warrior, who discovers that a lifetime of bravery cannot make up for a single mistake. Eric, who follows his heart only to find that love exacts a terrible price. Marvan, the master swordsman, who takes more pleasure from killing than he should. And Krish, the humble goatherd, with a destiny he hardly understands and can never accept - will discover just how much Smiler's Fair changes everything.

I downloaded several samples for my Kindle as well and luckily the first one I tried, The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold was an interesting read so I purchased the ebook and am reading it right now. Nothing new, but quick and easy and I like the characters so far. If the main character stops whining soon, it might get even better!

Also The Bands of Mourning by Brandon Sanderson is in my possession now and will definitely be next in line!

Books I am looking forward to in 2016

City of Mirrors. Passage Trilogy 3 by Justin Cronin (16.06.)

I just loved the first two books and can't wait for the conclusion of the trilogy. Especially after how the second book ended! I am prepared to cry like a baby.

The Lyre Thief. Lyre Thief Trilogy 1 by Jennifer Fallon (08.03.)

Hype Hype Hype! As some of you might know, Jennifer Fallon is one of my all-time favourites and I read everything she ever wrote apart from the Rift Runner series. This new series will go back to the world of the Demon Child trilogy & the Hythrun Chronicles and I am waaaay to excited to meet all of the characters again. I hope she didn't split up one of my favourite pairings :D She likes doing that though....

The Bands of Mourning. Wax & Wayne 3 by Brandon Sanderson (26.01.)

Yes!! Book 2 was awesome and I am so happy that 3 is coming out only a few months later. Thank you so much, Master Sanderson!!

Calamity. Reckoners Trilogy 3 by Brandon Sanderson (18.02.)

I am not as excited as I am for Wax & Wayne, but still looking forward to it as it will conclude the trilogy and Sanderson himself is very happy with this one. I am expecting to be very surprised.

The Mortal Tally. Bring Down Heaven 2 by Sam Sykes (29.03.)

Really enjoyed the first one and am very curious about where the story goes from now. I love the characters so much and hope that they develop even more and have more awesome dialogues.

Books I would love to get this year but don't believe they will get published:
The Thorn of Emberlain. Gentleman Bastard Series 4 by Scott Lynch

I think it is supposed to come out this year.. But it was also supposed to come out last year.. and the year before....

The Winds of Winter. A Song of Ice and Fire 6 by George R. R. Martin

Maybe early 2017? I read Martin's latest blog post and am sad to hear that he is struggling so much with the book. I don't mind how long it takes as long as I get it one day.

The Doors of Stone. Kingkiller Chronicle 3 by Patrick Rothfuss

Didn't hear about that one in a while but I am waiting patiently as I am sure it will be worth it!
